Buying a Home
Think you can't afford a home? Think again. NIFA’s How to Buy a Home Guide gives you the information, tips and tools you need in nine easy steps.
NIFA's Single Family Homeownership Program offers eligible buyers 30-year mortgages with below market rates. NIFA partners with participating lenders across the state. These local lenders process the mortgage applications and assist NIFA first-time homebuyers with the process of obtaining a mortgage loan.

Renting a Home
Alternatively, if you are interested in renting a home that is more affordable, NIFA has programs that may benefit you. The Low Income Housing Tax Credit program (LIHTC), administered by NIFA, is designed to assist developers in building affordable rental housing that benefits low to moderate-income families. These developments have restrictions on the amount of rent that can be charged. Income restrictions do apply for eligibility to live in the affordable developments. CROWN is also a program used by housing developers, to build affordable single family homes that are "lease-to-own" or that have programs that can assist families in preparing for homeownership. A CROWN housing development will have CROWN in the development's name.
