HUD: Program Information and List of Cities Eligible for HUD Distressed Cities Technical Assistance Released

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has identified 205 Nebraska communities that meet the qualifying criteria for Distressed Cities Technical Assistance. If your community is on the list, you are eligible to request assistance directly from HUD on or after September 16, 2019

 Specifically, 205 out of the 544 cities in Nebraska meet the criteria of having a population less than 40,000, being impacted by disaster, and meeting at least one of the following requirements:

 Avg. 3-yr. unemployment rate of 9% or higher;

  • poverty rate of 20% or higher among people not enrolled in higher education;
  • or a population decline of 5% or more since 2010.

To request assistance, follow the instructions contained in this PDF document. This information is provided as a courtesy, and DED cannot submit a request on your behalf. This Excel sheet contains data sources and an explanation of how DED’s calculations were made. If cities need to prove to HUD that they are eligible, the spreadsheet can be used to demonstrate eligibility. If you have questions about HUD TA, you may submit them to distressedcities@hud.gov.
