CROWN transforms affordable rental housing into a clear, achievable pathway to homeownership. Instead of treating renting and owning as separate worlds, the program intentionally connects the two — helping families move from renting a home to owning a home, creating an opportunity for financial stability and long-term growth.

The CROWN Program (Credits to Own) is a NIFA initiative that bridges affordable rental housing and homeownership. It allows families to build financial strength and homeownership readiness while benefitting from stable, affordable rent.
Across Nebraska, CROWN developments are more than places to live — they’re steppingstones toward owning a home. Through the program, residents gain financial stability, education, and savings tools that prepare them for ownership.

CROWN homes are developed using 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), a federal resource administered by NIFA to create affordable housing throughout Nebraska. Properties in the program must maintain rent and income limits, ensuring affordability and stability over time.

When a CROWN home becomes available for purchase, qualified residents may apply for a mortgage through one of NIFA’s Homeownership Programs.
