Housing Study Grant Program

The Housing Study Grant Program is used to stimulate ideas for comprehensive development plans encompassing housing, community, and economic development opportunities in Nebraska.

Eligible applicants include any housing or economic development entity, profit or non-profit, without direct access to property tax revenues.

Funding Amount:

NIFA anticipates having up to $125,000 in funds available annually.  

  • The maximum grant award is $60,000 per project. There is no minimum.
  • Applicant will be required to provide a minimum of 50% of the total project study cost in cash matching funds and 70% for a study completed as part of a comprehensive plan.
  • Project studies are expected to be completed within an 24-month period following acceptance by grantee of a NIFA letter agreement.

Fiscal Year 2021 Application Deadlines:

  • Round 1: July 17, 2020
  • Round 2: October 23, 2020
  • Round 3: March 19, 2021

NIFA reserves the right to modify or withdraw the housing study grant program and may exercise such right at any time and without notice and without liability to any applicant or other parties for their expenses incurred in the preparation of a proposal or otherwise.

NIFA reserves the right to reject any applications that do not correspond with NIFA's current housing priorities as identified by the NIFA Board.

Native American Community Impact Grant

The Native American Community Impact Grant was created to support Nebraska tribal organizations and organizations that serve tribal members by increasing their long-term capacity to meet community needs including affordable housing.

Eligible applicants include Tribally Designated Housing Entities or any non-profit housing, community development, or economic development entity in Nebraska whose mission directly impacts tribal members.

Program Information:

Applications will be accepted at least once per year, subject to funding availability.  NIFA anticipates awarding one new grant per application cycle.

  • The maximum grant award is $30,000 per year.
  • Applicant will be required to provide an equal amount of matching funds.
  • Partner funding will be renewable annually for an additional 2 years (for a total of 3 years), subject to funding availability and progress toward the stated goals and objectives.  

Fiscal Year 2021 Application Deadline and Fee:

  • Application Deadline: April 15, 2021
  • Application fee: $150

The Outreach Partnership Program was created to support non-profit organizations and help increase their long-term capacity to meet community needs including affordable housing in Nebraska.

Eligible applicants include any non-profit housing, community development, or economic development entity in Nebraska.

Program Information:

Applications will be accepted at least once per year, subject to funding availability.  NIFA anticipates approximately $90,000 to be available for each application cycle.

  • The maximum grant award is $30,000 per year.
  • Applicant will be required to provide an equal amount of matching funds.
  • Partner funding will be renewable annually for an additional 2 years (for a total of 3 years), subject to funding availability and progress toward the stated goals and objectives.

  • Application Deadline: 5:00 p.m. CST on April 15, 2021
  • Application fee: $300
