How to Apply for a NIFA Loan

Ready to apply for a NIFA home loan? NIFA home loans are originated through approved Participating Lenders, not directly through NIFA. Your lender will help review your eligibility, explain available loan options and guide you through the application process.

Need more detail? Read our step-by-step guide to applying for a NIFA home loan in Nebraska.

1. Check Your Eligibility

Start by chatting with Quinn the QualBot to get a quick look at which NIFA home loan programs you may be eligible for. Look for the chat icon in the lower-right corner of the webpage.

Quinn is not a loan application or loan approval. Your final eligibility will be reviewed by a Participating Lender.

2. Complete Homebuyer Education

Before closing, required borrowers must complete a homebuyer education class through a NIFA-approved provider.

NIFA encourages buyers to complete homebuyer education early in the homebuying process so they are better prepared to compare homes, understand costs and work with their lender and real estate agent.

3. Find a Participating Lender

A NIFA Participating Lender will help you get pre-approved and apply for a NIFA loan. Your loan officer will review your credit, income, expenses and other financial information to help determine what mortgage payment you may be able to afford.

Find a NIFA Loan Officer Specialist

4. Find a Real Estate Agent

A real estate agent can help you search for homes, understand the local market and prepare an offer when you find the right property.

If you want to work with an agent who has completed NIFA training, search for a NIFA Realtor Specialist.

5. Apply for a NIFA Loan

Once you have selected a home and are working with a Participating Lender, your lender will guide you through the NIFA loan application process. They will collect your documentation, confirm program eligibility and help move your loan toward closing.
